Any contractors have knowledge on asbestos?

Demolition of a very large old building took place in a town near by. It had asbestos in the exterior walls. A local recycling company got the job of demolition for lowest bid. The demolition took place in the middle of the night..... Very fishy. Nothing was tarp-ed. How long do asbestos particles linger? Is it on the trees & grass now? Is there any health risk? I know asbestos is bad but I thought more safety measures would be taken in the demolition of this building. Am I just paranoid???
