Can a landlord do possibly harmful repairs while I am still occupying apartment? NY?

I have given my landlord my 30 day notice to move. he wants to come in and do renovations and repairs while I am still living here. They are not damages i have made. he wants to replace the bathroom sink, replace the main door and redo part of the kitchen ceiling (which shows water stains and damage). The reason I am uncomfortable with this that I have a 5 month baby and i know when he takes down part of the ceiling there is going to be a lot of disgusting things falling down such as dust, mold and asbestos? does he have the right to do such repairs while we still occupy the apartment? The water damage has been ther for some time now ( i live in NY)
