Do I have to pay taxes on money received from a law suit?

My father died 10 years ago. At the time of his death, he had an ongoing law suit against chemical companies due to exposure to asbestos. After his death, I am still receiving checks, through his estate, but do not know if I am suppose to pay taxes. Does anyone know if this money is taxable.
