If asbestos is so harmful why do we use it?

Attic insulation in homes is rarely asbestos. Unless the material you have seen has been tested, do not assume it is asbestos. There are many materials that all look similar. Asbestos was used in the past because it was a great fireproofing material and at the time, there were really no alternatives that worked as well.
