Will a pet turtle move directly towards the lake? How to attract a hiding turtle?

What kind of turtle? No guarantee it'll like the food you put out better than the graze or bugs it's already finding. My best guess is wait for the sun to come out on a patch of open land, it'll be drawn to that for warmth and to feed.
