Could plasterboard contain asbestos?

I was working with a dads friend today and i was ripping out loads of plasterboard and breaking it into small bits and i didn't wear a mask and i was breaking it up for 3 hours, could this plasterboard contained asbestos and if it did what harm could it have done to me ?
