I am by no means a pro, but I had issues with the floor in my kitchen being out of level when I built my house. Essentially, I think the foundation had a dip in it, and I installed laminate flooring, so every time someone would step there, you could feel the laminate flex a bit. What they ended up doing was pulling the laminate up and "shimming" the floor with some kind of material they spread on the floor and then "graded" to make it flat. I don't know what it was, but it looked like some sort of putty. It goes down wet and dries hard, they filled in the low spot then graded it with a straightedge to make it level with the rest of the floor.

You should have the broken tile and glue tested in a certified lab (just look in Yellow Pages). If not asbestos, you can do what you want. If it is, you really need to have it professionally removed. Have at least have three companies give you estimates. You can do the plywood deal, but the tiles will continue to break as they age and the linoleum will not be much protection. You would need to seal the plywood to the wall around the edges will some sort of caulking. Even with that, you would need to have it removed if you ever sold or pay the buyer to have it done.

Worried about asbestos ?

Basically im a landscapers apprentice and today i was digging a hole in someones back garden for a plant and as ive dug down ive started to hit bits of hardcore, some big, some small, but all of the same stuff. I started pulling it out and it was all bits of roof tiles, but i still wasnt entirely sure what it was, so i said to my boss as he walked past whats this and because he was doing something didnt really pay that much attention and said 'i dunno' or something and carried on, so i was like okay then, just carry on. So i carry on digging but as i am, it seemed the stuff was breaking in the ground, not like getting crushed up with loads of dust coming out every where, just like snapping in half where the spade was hitting it. I then said again to my boss, what actually is this stuff, and he came and looked and said ohh concrete asbestos (well i think thats what he said, he said something along them lines) roof tiles, yeah they used to use it on shed roofs and stuff. So i was like, what ! asbestos ?! F*** this i aint doing that no more and he was like nah dont worry about it, that'll be fine, trust me, im a landscape gardener, ive seen it all before blah blah. But you know, im a little uneasy as soon as i hear the word 'asbestos' but still i thought hmmm, might aswell just carry on then. Now what i want to know is, was my boss right to say dont worry about it ? Also should i really be worried about this ? Thanks !

Asbestos!?? do i remove it?

So im about to buy a house. The roof used to leak but the previous owner fixed it. He did not fix any water damage tho. So there are a few areas where there are holes in the drywall of the ceiling. Question about OSHA regulation?

My husband is working at an asbestos site. (not removal yet just putting poly inside the buildings to prepare for removal). There is asbestos hanging down from the ceilings that they can hit their heads on and disturb causing problems. Theyre NOT letting them wear masks/not providing masks for them. Possible Asbestos in my recently purchased home?

rencently purchased a home with an FHA loan. I removed the carpet to put in laminate, and discovered that the flooring underneath may be asphalt asbestos. No one told me about this previously. Also, the former owner patched an area of the floor (the subfloor is concrete) and he sanded some of the tile. Should my inspector have told me about the posibility of this floor containing asbestos? He saw the tile underneath, but probably did not see the part that was sanded. Also, he was telling me that it would not be a big deal to even out the flooring. He said that I could grind the high spots and use leveling compound on the low spots. This would obviously involve removal of the Asphalt tile. I am angry that the previous owner damaged the tile and possibly caused a health hazard for myself and my 5 year old son. Now I am looking at staying with a friend until this is resolved. However, the asbestos has to be airborne to be ingested into the body. So just having asbestos in the attic not being disturbed would not be a problem. Unless the house is really old it is probably not asbestos.

Dude, RELAX! It's okay that happens to everyone. I'm 16 too and I shave and that happens. Now it usually doesnt take two months for it to grow back. Possible asbestos in my home?

I rencently purchased a home with an FHA loan. I removed the carpet to put in laminate, and discovered that the flooring underneath may be asphalt asbestos. No one told me about this previously. Also, the former owner patched an area of the floor (the subfloor is concrete) and he sanded some of the tile. Should my inspector have told me about the posibility of this floor containing asbestos? He saw the tile underneath, but probably did not see the part that was sanded. Also, he was telling me that it would not be a big deal to even out the flooring. He said that I could grind the high spots and use leveling compound on the low spots. This would obviously involve removal of the Asphalt tile. I am angry that the previous owner damaged the tile and possibly caused a health hazard for myself and my 5 year old son. Now I am looking at staying with a friend until this is resolved. We had an asbestos door removed of the boiler and under stair cupboard in the Kitchen.?

This was brought to our attention by the gas engineer doing the boiler test. This was removed securely and replaced. We had a surveyor come in yesterday and he said that the cement in the same cupboard is asbestos cement. This is where the boiler is and obviously where I store all my crockery and cereals etc. I know we haven't touched it apart from vacuuming the dusk up but we have vent heating in this house. Worried about asbestos ?

Basically im a landscapers apprentice and today i was digging a hole in someones back garden for a plant and as ive dug down ive started to hit bits of hardcore, some big, some small, but all of the same stuff. I started pulling it out and it was all bits of roof tiles, but i still wasnt entirely sure what it was, so i said to my boss as he walked past whats this and because he was doing something didnt really pay that much attention and said 'i dunno' or something and carried on, so i was like okay then, just carry on. So i carry on digging but as i am, it seemed the stuff was breaking in the ground, not like getting crushed up with loads of dust coming out every where, just like snapping in half where the spade was hitting it. I then said again to my boss, what actually is this stuff, and he came and looked and said ohh concrete asbestos (well i think thats what he said, he said something along them lines) roof tiles, yeah they used to use it on shed roofs and stuff. So i was like, what ! asbestos ?! F*** this i aint doing that no more and he was like nah dont worry about it, that'll be fine, trust me, im a landscape gardener, ive seen it all before blah blah. But you know, im a little uneasy as soon as i hear the word 'asbestos' but still i thought hmmm, might aswell just carry on then. Asbestos tile removal, under carpet?

I have purchased a home built in the south from the early 70's. We had pulled out the carpet in the main living room due to moisture. Were started to pull the carpet from my daughters room for the same reason. Now when we started pulling up her carpet, surprise, old vinyl tile. Husband says it looks like the asbestos tile hes seen online, and after researching. Now, we were going to just cover over the concrete slab with "Allure traffic master vinyl planks" until this surprise. Its cracked in a few places around the edge, and the nail board that was holding the carpet down is nailed through it. Should we pull the carpet tack board and just go over it with said vinyl? Or am I going to need a pro with money I don't have. Re carpeting is not an option due to the moisture, and the fact that its cracked. Thanks :)
